An initially built-up plot on Dageraadplaats in Antwerp was converted into a medical practice by architects murmuur and An Vanderhoydonck in 2020. Because of the limited space in the densely built-up urban area, we decided to stack the consulting rooms together. A welcome patch of garden starts at the back of the building, with plenty of light and views of the doctors’ private rooms, as a narrow green strip on the rear façade fans out into a small urban garden, a green resting point for busy, hot days.
Due to the high demand for general practitioners and supportive care staff, a modification was made to the spaces located on the ground floor, together with the doctors, in order to be able to serve more patients further and respond to the high need for help.
With great respect for the earlier design, two spaces were transformed, one as a mini workplace and one as an additional full-size cabinet.
