Renovation of a single-family house - ongoing since 2023
Renovation of a charming house located just outside the centre of Lier.
The house is mainly oriented east (street facade) – west (garden facade) and consists of two floors, a small rear extension, a basement and a charming garden.
We mainly investigated for the sketch design/pre-design the ground floor, first-floor bathroom and an additional floor under the roof.
Our main principles in the design process were transparency, light and greenery. We would like to reopen the west-facing face of the house and include the garden in the house both on the ground floor and on the first floor. We believe that the garden is a precious buffer in the summer and can be an extra room to enrich the home and increase the livability in the city.
We tried to propose a logical and obvious design where in all designs the wet rooms (kitchen, bathroom, toilet,…) are positioned near each other.
We would like to further explore how we can sustainably enhance the house (through materials, techniques, shading, plantings,…) and transform it into a nice and warm “home”.
